“It’s peaking their interest” Academy choreographer Ekaterina Belova on working with Congo gymnasts

Ekaterina Belova, Academy choreographer and former artist of the State Academic Folk Dance Ensemble named after Igor Moiseyev, shared her impressions from classes with gymnasts from the Congo.

“Everything is new to them, but they are so diligent and absorb everything. It helps that classical choreography uses French terms, since classical ballet came about in France. In general, they understand, for example, when I say “rond de jambes par terre, “en dehors” and “en dedans”. They didn't know how to do it, but the direction in which we draw a circle on the floor in a forward, backward direction was very easy for them to understand,” Ekaterina said.

The choreographer also explained how she helps athletes improve their skills.

“ Now I’m trying to help them, give them some advice. I explain why, for example, you need to turn your leg, and in what direction. I show by my example that there should be a vertical line, so that it is easier to maintain balance and maintain it. It helps,” the choreographer said.

The training camp for gymnasts from the Congo was organized by the Alina Kabaeva Charitable Foundation, which covered all the expenses.
