"Sochi is a chess spot!" Russian Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin talks about Knowledge Day at the Martial Arts Academy

Russian grandmaster Sergey Karyakin spoke with guests of the celebration in honor of the Knowledge Day at the Martial Arts Academy.

He said that Sochi is a place with chess traditions. For example, it was here in 2014 that the match for the World Champion title was held.

"I am very pleased to be here. I have been to Sochi many times, played in tournaments, and literally a few minutes from here the World Championship match was held 10 years ago. This is a chess place, and I hope many of you young people play chess," he said.

The Grandmaster also shared the benefits of chess lessons for children.

"I played a match at the world championship with Magnus Carlsen. After that, a lot of children went into chess clubs, it's great. And as for what chess can give to children, it is, of course, logic, intuition, strategic thinking, responsibility for your actions, because in chess once you make a move, you can't take it back, and in life you also start thinking about how to act," he said.

On September 1, Sergey Karjakin held a chess master class in honor of the Knowledge Day at the Martial Arts Academy.
