Academy student Eva Chugunova spoke about her performance at the Russian Championship
The gymnast spoke about working with coach Evgenia Eliseeva, about the call from Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva and the support of her friends.
After the end of the tournament, the gymnast shared her impressions of the competition in Moscow.
"I like it here; I have already performed quite a lot of times here, during the championship and at the Young Gymnasts tournament. I was not anxious during the first two days. I had such strong excitement when I performed with the hoop, with the ball, and I was not anxious with the clubs and the ribbon," Eva said.
Eva also spoke about working with Academy coach Evgenia Eliseeva.
"She can be strict at some points, saying, ‘Focus!’ She is kind at the other points. If everything works well, then she says, ‘Excellent! Continue, complete the throw. Everything will work out with you," she said.
The athlete also explained how Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva helped the Academy gymnasts during the Russian championship.
"Alina Kabaeva called us, cheered us on. She commended me that I had begun performing fouette turns better and I had started making good jumps," Eva shared.
She also spoke about the support of her Academy friends.
"We support each other. We say to each other, ‘Good luck, you got this.’ We are watching, coming out to root for girls. Someone says aloud, ‘Hold and until the end,’ the others say not out loud," she said.
