That year, future Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva and Irina Chashchina performed in the senior program in Tokyo, while Olga Peskisheva performed with the juniors.In 2001, the gymnasts of our country won all the possible gold medals at this tournament. Alina Kabaeva and Olga Peskisheva were the first in the all-around in their categories, and together the athletes won the team gold. Future Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva stepped onto the AEON Cup mat for the first time in 1996. She competed in the junior category and won. After that, she won the tournament six more times — a year later in the junior category, and then five times among the seniors.In the senior category, Russia was represented by Yana Batyrshina and Amina Zaripova in 1996, as at the previous competitions.
