"It's more about the atmosphere here." Teacher of Alla Dukhova's TODES school-studio Evgeny Platonov talks about an Academy master class

Teacher and director of Alla Dukhova's TODES school-studio in Prokshino Evgeny Platonov held a new lesson for the Academy's gymnasts. After the lesson, he told us what the main task of modern choreography is.

"Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport, and choreography is an art. But what brings us  together is that the basis of choreography, any, always classic, this is a classic lesson. This is an exercise at the barre, an exercise in the middle of the hall. It is all plie, battement tendu. In general, all classical choreography is the base. And it is the same for gymnasts. But the difference is that modern choreography is more of a sense of rhythm, some canons. And yet, when I watch rhythmic gymnastics, I am always surprised. It seems like they are working with an object, the music is playing, and you think: “How do they finish the finale right into the music," Evgeniy said.

He also explained why gymnasts need to dance.

"Probably, this is so that they can take a break from athletic training. Because sports are all about results. We create an atmosphere where they can just relax.It’s more about the atmosphere, more about somehow feeling different," he said.

Teachers from Alla Dukhova's TODES school-studio conduct master classes not only for the Academy's students, but also for children from the free early development groups.
