Yulia Bravikova on Academy training camps: It’s captivating to work with foreign gymnasts

The 2017 Winter Universiade champion Yulia Bravikova talked about what it was like to work with athletes from Cuba during the Sky Grace Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy training camps.

“This is an added bonus to my personal experience! I hadn’t worked with Cuban athletes before, it is interesting to work by international rules,” Bravikova said. She went on to say that previously, she mainly choreographed programs, but did not train gymnasts on a daily basis.

Bravikova emphasized that her invitation to participate in the training camps from the Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva came as a surprise. “Alina [Maratovna] called me and personally invited me to work with the gymnasts. I was pleasantly surprised and immediately agreed. The details didn’t matter to me, it was just interesting to work with foreign athletes. This is also a matter of experience for me, and I want other countries to become better and to develop further. I will be very glad if I am able to help. I am happy to be here - the conditions are incredible. I saw a platform in the choreographic hall for the first time, and I thought to myself - “Well, I didn’t have this growing up,” the former athlete said.

Bravikova completed her sports career in 2018. Now she conducts master classes, organizes her own tournament and works as a choreographer.
