"I watch the girls compete with great pleasure." Evgeniya Kanaeva on the Evgeniya Cup tournament

Two-time Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva shared her impressions of the Evgeniya Cup tournament.

“The status of the competition depends greatly on the lineup and on the participants, because, first and foremost, it is a competition, it is interest, it is development, and, of course, we endeavor to create all the conditions so that it is at the highest level, so that the girls learn and gain even more experience of performing at large arenas, be able to talk with hosts, responding to questions,” Evgeniya said.

She paid special attention to Sky Grace gymnasts.

“I really liked the girls from the Sky Grace because they are getting better and better and made great progress over the past year. The work of the choreographers, coaches, and the entire team is incredible, because the same Karolina Tarasova we saw last year is now at a completely different level. She has incredible energy. Yana Zaikina is a talented girl. She is perhaps one of the few who moves like this — freely, broadly, boldly, with amplitude, and has such ease of movement,” she said.

Evgeniya also noted the intense and exciting competition between the tournament participants.

“I really enjoy watching how the girls compete and contend. A very interesting battle unfolded between Mariia Borisova and Ulyana Janus, because Masha has currently the leader’s status, and it is also important for her to perform consistently,” she said.
