Academy student Veronika Malinina from St. Petersburg performed at the Young Gymnasts Trade Unions Physical Culture and Sports Society competition in Lyubertsy.
After the performance, the gymnast told how her first tournament of the season went.
"Everything is fine. I could have done better, but it was my first start of the season. I will continue to try, I will fix my mistakes. My hoop turned out well, in general. In clubs, I lost it on the risk. And I dropped the ball from my hand on two rolls. I was calm, because everything had already been worked out," she said.
Veronika shared what her coaches told her to pay special attention to during competitions.
"They told me to turn, to go more to the front of my foot. And they told me to be calmer, to flex my feet. I tried," the gymnast said.
She also thanked Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva.
"I would like to thank Alina Kabaeva for helping me prepare for this competition," she said.
Her coach Alina Gusarova also summed up the results of her performance.
"We started off well today. Without an apparatus, the first event, we passed more or less. Of course, there was a small loss, but it was due to lack of attention. No big deal. But the third and fourth events, unfortunately, let us down today. We will try to fix everything," Alina said.
She spoke about her preparation for this tournament and her main goal, which is to qualify for the All-Russian competition.
"We prepared at the Academy. We worked on the program according to Russian rules, which we just performed. And we prepared the program according to international rules. The main goal here is to qualify for the Young Gymnasts tournament, which will be held in November," the coach said.
