“I really wanted to do a show about faith.” Choreographer Irina Zenovka - about the EVGENIYA CUP gala concert

Russian national team choreographer Irina Zenovka talked about the idea behind the “Faith in a Dream” show - the ending of the EVGENIYA CUP international competition.

“The title wasn’t accidental. I really wanted to do a show about faith, and Vera (Faith) is not a random name, that’s the name of Vera Shtelbaums (Evgenia Kanaeva’s coach). And Zhenya is, of course, the embodiment of every gymnast’s dream. Becoming a two-time Olympic champion is a dream, which is why our show is called “Faith in a Dream,” Zenovka said.

She also shared what role Vera Shtelbaums and Evgenia Kanaeva played in her life.

“I can call Vera my sports mom. She taught me everything, I always look to her for an example, and I am very grateful that she played a major role in my life. And I was lucky to find a gymnast like Evgenia Kanaeva, who was able to realize all my ideas and become such a great athlete,” Zenovka said.

The tournament named to honor the two-time Olympic champion Evgenia Kanaeva was held in Omsk on April 28-30. Gymnasts from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia and 13 Russian regions performed at the EVGENIYA CUP tournament.

In the all-around among seniors won Belarus gymnast Alina Harnaska, and among juniors - Victoria Chumakova.
