Alina Kabaeva's academic supervisor explained the uniqueness Olympic Champion’s Ph.D. thesis
The PhD thesis of Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva became the basis for the Academy's additional education program for preschool children with a focus on rhythmic gymnastics and English.
Alina Kabaeva defended her scientific work at the P.Lesgaft National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health in 2018. The topic of her dissertation was "The content of the sports and health-improving stage of training for preschool age children in rhythmic gymnastics."
The Olympic champion’s academic supervisor was Raisa Terekhina, the Head of the Department of Theory and Methods of Gymnastics, USSR Master of Sports. She explained in detail what is the uniqueness of the study and why it is important to implement it in the training for young athletes.
"Alina Kabaeva had just developed the content of the sports and recreation stage for preschool age children, which has a scientific basis and underlies the children’s preparation at this young age in order not to harm them, to instill the interest in lessons, to have them fall in love with artistic gymnastics and make them want to be involved in physical culture and sports all their lives. This research provides a scientific reasoning for the children’s psychophysiological characteristics, and it shows the size of the workload that can be used in order to have a positive effect on the children. The work displays the gradation for each age category and for the workload, and for the class length, and for the use of certain means of training," Raisa said.
The teacher is confident that the curriculum developed based on this study will have a positive impact on children's health and development.
"I am very glad that these programs are already available at Sky Grace. And of course, this will have such a positive impact on the health of the children who come there to practice. The use of this approach with programs like this is the reason for the positive effect on the health of our children."
