How does the electronic grading system work? Developer Igor Mayorov tells all about it

During the seminar at the Academy, judges were able to practice grading according to the International Association rules in an electronic system.

Lead developer Igor Mayorov spoke about the advantages of the program.

“Before, there was this difficult aspect that you had to write everything on pieces of paper, carry it to the chief judge, then recalculate it on calculators, prepare the final protocols, and print them. This took a lot of time and extended the event. Now this is all completely automated: people simply type in a score and, as a result, the printer simply gives them the finished result, which remains to be signed by the chief judge and the secretary,” the developer said.

Igor noted that this is not the final version of the program, there will be further improvements.

“Many people think that it is enough to develop a system once. But no, the world is changing, and so are the rules. Even, banally, the Olympic cycle changes the rules every year. Therefore, we have to constantly refine something; new requirements and wishes from judges appear, which we always try to take into account and implement. Keep the system up to date,” he said.

All-Russian category Elena Semina from the Oryol region shared her impressions after testing the electronic judging system.

Electronic judging allows to speed up the judging process, allows to evaluate a gymnast in real time, it makes life easier for the judges, speeds up their work, and this does not delay the competition, decisions are made online, quickly, clearly.  The program itself is actually very convenient. Maybe at first it was not that familiar to us, but nevertheless we’ve all mastered it. We give grades on tablets and get rid of some of our handwritten notes. That is, we keep up with the times.

A seminar for judges and coaches on judging by the Sky Grace International Rhythmic Gymnastics Clubs Association was held at the Academy January 13-14.
