What does a gymnast’s score consist of at competitions according to the Sky Grace rules? Judge Evgenia Vasyukova shares all
Judge Evgenia Vasyukova from the Oryol region worked at the international Sky Grace Grand Prix in Minsk.
She explained what makes up a gymnast’s score at competitions according to the rules of the International Sky Grace Rhythmic Gymnastics Clubs Association.
"In gymnastics, there are four teams of judges: a team that evaluates the body difficulties, a team that evaluates the object difficulty, and two more teams that evaluate artistry and technique. In a body difficulty panel, the score consists of the average score of two judges, who initially evaluate the gymnast independently of each other, and then give the average score of their two results. The team that evaluates the difficulty of the object uses the same scheme, but the team of artistry and performance technique works a little differently. There are four judges sitting there, they also evaluate the gymnast, independently of each other, then a mathematical average is derived from these four evaluations," Evgenia said.
She also told us how controversial issues are resolved during the evaluation process.
"Of course, there are arguments, there are different instances. If the judges have disagreements even within the team, thank Goodness, in the Sky Grace rules, we always have a video replay that we can turn to. If there is a discrepancy within the team, then all the judges are invited to the main judge’s table and we have the opportunity to consider all this together, discuss it again and come up with a better assessment," the judge explained.
She also shared her opinion on the future of the Association.
"Many gymnasts are already coming, many deserving athletes, strong athletes. I think that the Sky Grace Association has everything ahead of them," she Evgenia said.
