Group exercise gymnasts from Nizhny Novgorod talk about artistry techniques in the exercise at the All-Russian Young Sky Grace competition
Group exercise gymnasts from Nizhny Novgorod won silver at the All-Russian Young Sky Grace competition in the 1st athletic category.
Team gymnast Sofia Kalinina shared with us impressions from the tournament:
"We have excellent impressions. We are very grateful to Alina Kabaeva for these conditions, for such competitions."
The athletes noted that artistry is rated very high in rules of the Sky Grace International Clubs Association. Sofia also explained what artistry techniques they use in their performances:
"In the program you may not merely smile, but also insert various tricks. For example, wink or do something more with your face. We wink a lot, we show surprise and we try to smile a lot."
Ulyana Romanenko noted that the main task in the hoop exercise is not to smile but to convey the music in the glance:
"We have the mysterious music for the hoops. You don't have to smile there but make a certain glance."
Furthermore, Sofia shared with us the history of team mascots:
"Each of us has a good luck charm from the fairy tale called Turnip. We were in a summer camp and came up with such a performance about a turnip. And later our coaches presented to us toys associated with us. Yana has a grandfather, Ulyana has a grandmother, Olesya has a granddaughter, I have a cat, Katya has a mouse and Varya has a turnip.”
