Ekaterina Belova talks about Academy choreography classes during the new season

Ekaterina Belova, choreographer and former artist of the Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance spoke about choreography classes for Academy students and Venezuelan national team gymnast Jimena Dominguez.

"We practiced classical choreography with the addition of elements from rhythmic gymnastics, difficult elements, new elements for our guests, for example, today we did an exercise - back balance. This is very difficult, plus our upper leg was already on as a support, that is, it was not even placed on the floor. And we tried to slowly achieve this balance, and then turn, thinking through every muscle, the movements of our supporting system, the lack of movement in the supporting hip, this is also important. Then we removed the upper leg from the barre," she said.

She explained in detail what should be paid attention to in class.

"Stretching is important for the popliteal ligament of both legs, because it needs to be done in an inverted direction. Back flexibility, back strength, gathered shoulder blades, dropped shoulders - everything is very important. It is important to go into the deflection correctly, that is, not just in the lower back, but through the entire spine to lengthen yourself and come out in the same way," she said.

The choreographer also assessed the training level of the Academy’s guest from South America.

"Jimena is just a little bit lacking in this reach, these subtleties that classical choreography develops. She is a very good girl, very disciplined," Ekaterina said.

Venezuelan national team gymnast Jimena Dominguez's training sessions at the Academy will last until July 13.
